Dalhousie University, located in the heart of Halifax, provides physician training for the Maritime Provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island).
The Faculty of Medicine has earned an international reputation for fostering life-long learning based on biomedical science and clinical skill - and building on the fundamentals by interweaving communication skills, medical ethics, medical humanities, and medical research into the curriculum from day one. Access to advanced medical equipment and technologies also encourages innovation and provides opportunities for developing clinical skills.
The Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University , Government of Nova Scotia, Doctors Nova Scotia and the non-Metro District Health Authorities have partnered to offer a summer employment program designed for qualified medical students who have attachments to Nova Scotia communities outside of the Capital District Health Authority.
This summer employment program is designed to encourage 1st year and 2nd year medical students to consider rural or urban practice throughout the Province of Nova Scotia . Through exposure to community based specialists and family doctors, students will learn first hand about the rewards of community and rural medicine. The initial offering of this program is for a maximum of 100 weeks of funding at four to ten weeks per individual.
