Registration, Licensing and Professional Association

The The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia is responsible for licensing physicians, including international medical graduates who must meet licensing, assessment, and training requirements equivalent to those required of Canadian-trained physicians. Physicians interested in practicing in Nova Scotia must be eligible for licensure. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia is able to provide an On-Line opinion regarding eligibility.

Medical Society of Nova Scotia

The Medical Society of Nova Scotia (Doctors NS) is the oldest professional association for physicians in the country. It represents the approximately 2,200 physicians and 700 medical students and residents in Nova Scotia, and is a division of the Canadian Medical Association.

PARI-MP

PARI-MP is the Professional Association of Resident Physicians in the Maritime Provinces. PARI-MP has approximately 450 resident physicians registered at Dalhousie University and training in hospitals and health care centres throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

Through PARI-MP, the Nova Scotia Department of Health funds the Maritime Physician Recruitment Initiative (MPRI). The main focus of MPRI is to assist in the recruitment and retention of Maritime trained physicians for Maritime communities.
