Nova Scotia's locum program provides temporary support to doctors who are already practicing in communities throughout Nova Scotia. Locum physicians deliver quality care to the patients of physicians who must be away from their practices due to education, maternity, vacation, illness or other types of leave.
Once a locum has been approved, the Department of Health works closely with the locum physician to arrange the completion of a standard locum contract. The physician ensures that billing arrangements are established through Medavie Blue Cross.
Under this program physicians (Family Medicine and Core Specialties) are entitled to a number of payments. The table below lists these payments along with information that must be submitted to the Department of Health in order for claims to be processed. Printable .pdf forms are available.
