The Cape Breton District Health Authority is one of the largest employers in Cape Breton, offering careers in a variety of health-care professions. Today, we are experiencing business growth in various sectors including technology, education, health care and manufacturing.
Tourism is also a growth industry based on the beauty of the area in which we live. The Atlantic Ocean, the famous Bras d'Or Lakes, and the Mira River provide boating, swimming and fishing. The forest and access to historical and cultural events, skiing, golf and exploring our rich history and culture bring tourists year round.
In the past MacLean's magazine has identified Cape Breton as one of the best places to live in North America based on the quality of life available. In 2006, Travel & Leisure magazine named Cape Breton Island the 4th best island to visit in the world and the #1 island to visit in the Continental United States and Canada.
